Why do I read? As one man answered this simple question in the video we watched, "I read because I am literate and I can." I connected with this more than any of the other more far-fetched answers. Yes, of course I read to slip into a different world away from my own., I read because a good book can make you lose track of time, and it makes me think about things I may have never thought of. Reading itself was the basis of my learning and now I’ve grown away from books that teach me how to complete a math problem or explaining why American won some war we shouldn’t have been involved in. This doesn’t mean I hate reading the news, if it sparks my interest, I’ll take a peak.
But in the simplest of terms, I read because I enjoy it and because I can. I won't go into a whole spiel about how privileged I am to have the education that taught me to read, but it is something to think about. Sit down and read a book because you can.
